5 Things Donald Trump Said At His Rally That Were Wrong Or Questionable At Best

Image
Back in his natural element, President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening gave a freewheeling, 70-minute speech at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, that had all the signatures of his presidential campaign. John Oliver has been sued by the coal baron he tried to take down, which he predicted would happen

Image
("Last Week Tonight with John Oliver."HBO) The coal magnate Robert Murray has filed a lawsuit against John Oliver, HBO, Time Warner, and the writers of Oliver's show over the most recent episode of "Last Week Tonight," The Daily Beast reports. In a segment on the show, Oliver took on Murray's business practices and the safety hazards of the coal industry at large. Murray — who runs Murray Energy Corporation, the largest private coal company in the country — filed the suit Wednesday. It says Oliver's program "executed a meticulously planned attempt to assassinate the character of and reputation of Mr. Robert E. Murray and his companies." In the segment, Oliver called Murray a "geriatric Dr. Evil" because of Murray Energy's weakened safety practices, which Oliver contended led to a collapse in one of Murray's Utah mines that killed nine workers in 2007. Oliver predicted during the segment on Sunday that th...

Premiering June 23, the show features the former Community star as Ruth, a would-be actress in ’80s-era Los Angeles who finally experiences her first career break when she’s one of the first women cast in the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, a real-life wrestling league that headlined a cult syndicated series from 1986 to 1990. (Read Ken Tucker’s review here.) “There were a lot of fingerprint-shaped bruises on my legs and butt,” Brie tells Yahoo TV. “One day there was a scripted scene where I was meant to have a large bruise on my butt, and I came into hair and makeup and pulled my pants down. The makeup artist went to make the bruise and said, ‘Oh, there’s already one there!’” According to Brie, as well as the show’s crea...

His group reportedly bid about $1.3 billion for the franchise. Jeter’s pursuit of the Marlins has hit some snags the past few months. He initially teamed up with former Florida governor Jeb Bush to buy the team, but Bush left the group during a power struggle with Jeter. Bush reportedly had about $20 million invested. While that sounds like a lot of money, it was not considered a huge impediment to Jeter continuing his quest of owning the Marlins. ...

Johnny Depp: 'When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?'

Last month, it was comedian Kathy Griffin's infamous beheaded Donald Trump photo that pit the president's supporters against Hollywood. Now it appears that another Tinseltown figure, actor Johnny Depp, has entered the fray, making controversial comments about assassinating the commander in chief. While at the Glastonbury Festival on Thursday in the English county of Somerset, Depp brought up the president prior to introducing his 2004 film, "The Libertine." "Can we bring Trump in?" Depp says to the crowd, which responds with widespread boos, according to videos of the remarks. "No, no, no. You misunderstand completely. I think he needs help. And this is going to be in the press and it'll be horrible. But I like that you are all part of it. When was the last time an actor assassinated a president? I want to clarify: I'm...

Once a projected lottery pick, Cal's Ivan Rabb plummets into the second round

Image
At this time last year, Ivan Rabb was projected as a future lottery pick. Now, the Cal forward will be hailed as a cautionary tale. The Memphis Grizzlies selected Rabb with the 35th pick of the 2017 NBA draft on Thursday night, a disappointing outcome for a player who entered his sophomore season at Cal with higher expectations. Rabb told Yahoo Sports last November that NBA scouts predicted he would have been taken between eighth and 14th had he opted to enter the draft last year, after his freshman season. The millions of dollars Rabb lost by staying in school an extra year are a reminder of the importance of proper timing for draft prospects. For every Kris Dunn or Buddy Hield who surged up draft boards after returning to school, there are other guys like Rabb or former Baylor forward Perry Jones whose stock plummets after an unexpected plateau. While Rabb knew he w...
