Osinbajo Approves Extension Of States’ N510bn Budget Support Facility By Kreazetofa Odey - Jun

By Jonathan Nda- Isaiah,
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday directed that the budget support loan facility for states which ended today  be extended until other states claims are paid.
This was disclosed by the Gombe State governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo after the National Economic Council ( NEC)meeting yesterday presided over by Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa.
He said, “Although Finance Minister presented that the Budget Support Loan Facility has been fully disbursed, she announced that the Acting President has directed the facility to continue until other states’ claim are paid.”
LEADERSHIP recalls that the Budget Support Loan Facility is an initiative of the Buhari administration to help states get boost in their funding in the light of the dwindling FAAC allocations.
The conditional budget support facility was designed earlier this year to provide financial relief to state governments.
The facility is based on the implementation of a comprehensive 22-point Fiscal Sustainability Plan (FSP) that was unanimously agreed upon by state governors during the NEC meeting on May 19, 2016.
The BSF, a 12-month standby loan facility, was designed to bring immediate financial relief to state governments to enable them meet their financial obligations with a monthly amount of N50 billion in the first three months and N40 billion available for the remaining nine months to the 35 states.
He also said the Finance Minister presented a balance of $2.3 billion in the Excess Crude Account.
During the briefing, Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi disclosed that the federal and state government will partner to rehabilitate prisons in the country .
He said the  minister of Interior presented the state of prisons in Nigeria and painted a very appalling picture of structures and logistics in the prison system.
According to him, the governors were unanimous on the need to rehabilitate prisons in the country.
He stated, “It was indicated that states that have the capacity should as soon as practicable lend a helping hand to provide facilities that will help decongest the prisons and help improve the state of the inmates.

APC Chieftain cautions Kalu over comments on Buhari’s HealthABUJA – A founding chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Abia state, Prince Paul Ikonne has cautioned a former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu to avoid comments that could portray the party as incapable of keeping to its words. Ikonne was speaking against the backdrop of the former governor’s declaration that ailing President Muhammadu Buhari would return before June 12, urging him to refrain from acting as the president’s unofficial spokesman. “Last time, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu told Nigerians that President Buhari would return soon and he is not the spokesman of the President. Till now, the President is yet to return. He should keep quiet and learn to live like an elder statesman, not trying to take the job of the president’s spokesmen”, he said. Speaking with journalists Thursday in Abuja, Ikonne who was a governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria ACN, said 95 percent of the people of Abia are not happy with the way Kalu governed Abia for eight years.
