Trump Says He's 'Totally Opposed to Domestic Violence'

As much as the White House would like the Rob Porter scandal to go away, it could stay in the national discussion for weeks or months now that Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy has announced his House Oversight Committee is investigating the matter. Not long after, President Trump 


broke his silence on spousal abuse. "I am totally opposed to domestic violence of any kind," he said, more than a week after details of allegations against Porter emerged. "Everyone knows that, and it almost wouldn't even have to be said." Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence offered a rare expression of regret: "I think the White House could have handled this better."

Ewen Stevenson told Bloomberg TV: "It’s inevitable that there will be further job cuts, but we are not going to talk publicly about figures." Stevenson said job losses were coming as part of the bank's digital transformation plan, announced last week. RBS announced a £2.5 billion restructuring plan last week that Stevenson told Bloomberg would create "a better bank in 2020, a better bank equipped for digitization."     ("Last Week Tonight with John Oliver."HBO) The coal magnate Robert Murray has filed a lawsuit against John Oliver, HBO, Time Warner, and the writers of Oliver's show over the most recent episode of "Last Week Tonight," The Daily Beast reports. In a segment on the show, Oliver took on Murray's business practices and the safety hazards of the coal industry at large. Murray — who runs Murray Energy Corporation, the largest private coal company in the country — filed the suit Wednesday. It says Oliver's program "executed a meticulously planned attempt to assassinate the character of and reputation of Mr. Robert E. Murray and his companies."
